About Bsc (hons) Actuarial Science in University of York

This degree combines the expertise of the School of Business & Society and the Department of Mathematics, giving you access to world-class academics at the cutting edge of research in their fields.

You'll sharpen your mathematical skills and statistical reasoning, using advanced calculus, algebra, probability and statistics. In parallel you'll study economics, finance and accounting, developing your understanding of the wider context of actuarial work.

On successfully completing this course, you will be a multi-faceted and highly employable graduate with the financial and business skills required to qualify as a professional actuary.

Academic qualification equivalents

  • Typical offers for Standard XII (awarded by a recognised Board of Higher Secondary Education) are based on an average score ranging between 75% to 85%.

  • An average score of 85% is comparable to A*AA/AAA
  • An average score of 80% is comparable to AAB/ABB
  • An average score of 75% is comparable to BBB
  • For CBSE and CISCE boards we will accept the overall average score from the best four subjects. For other State Boards, we will accept the overall score from the best five subjects. Good A level and International Baccalaureate grades are also accepted. Actual grades required will vary by course.

    Other post-school qualifications may also be considered for entry to York on a case by case basis.
