Solving health care problems on a global scale

You can improve health care systems and enhance the patient experience by earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management. This program serves as a bridge between clinical, operational, and administrative functions and incorporates medicine, management, finance, information technology, and law into one curriculum.
This degree prepares graduates to:

  • Be the experts who improve health care systems and enhance the patient experience.
  • Help people navigate complex health care choices.
  • Ensure the security of electronic health records in the digital age. Endless opportunities in Indiana’s health care hub

Earning your degree through the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI connects you to a campus with a strong health care focus. Our students get experience in facilities like the IU School of Medicine, the IU School of Nursing, the Regenstrief Institute, and the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center.

That real-world learning is not just a bonus—it’s a program requirement. As part of your degree you’ll complete a professional practicum in a health care setting under the supervision of a mentor.

The delivery of health care

Your courses will cover health care delivery systems, coding, information governance, and handling medical data. Students learn decision and patient data analysis, management skills, and health information standards. Because of the course work diversity, HIM graduates can choose from a variety of work settings across an array of health care environments including analyzing health information, managing electronic health records, and ensuring the privacy and security of patient data.

CAHIIM-accredited and AHIMA-approved

For more than six decades, we’ve trained students to develop problem-solving skills that make them highly sought-after experts in both private and public health care environments. Our graduates are go-to health care consultants—the professionals who are called in when solutions are needed. Many are being hired for positions created just for them.
