About Physics in Loyola Marymount University
We are committed to the inclusion of all individuals in our classrooms including people of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, genders and gender identities, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We recognize that further efforts to promote equality and inclusion in our classrooms are continually necessary and that any forms of discrimination and inequity are both ethically wrong and damaging. As we continue to learn, refine, and implement noticeable change in our classrooms, we commit to improve upon and continue to:
- Listen to those most marginalized among our physics community
- Provide resources to support our students (see our Resources page)
- Call out injustice when we see it
- Review our academic curriculum to identify any biases in content selection, application context, and/or representation and then subsequently revise our academic curriculum in order to reconcile identified biases
- Identify any potential bias in access to research opportunities and actively promote the inclusion of historically underrepresented students in faculty research
- Identify and reconcile any potential bias in the selection of students for professional development opportunities, such as serving as a teaching assistant
