About Aerospace Engineering in San Diego State University

The Aerospace Engineering Department at SDSU has 12 full time professors among whom are some of the nationally and internationally recognized leading researchers in their fields. The 2017 US News and World Report ranks the SDSU Aerospace Graduate Program at No. 37 nationally, and No. 27 among public institutions. Aerospace Engineering program at SDSU that provides a rigorous curriculum that establishes a strong fundamental background and practical skills that make you attractive to employers. Our master's program has a mix of full time students and part time working engineers. The program curriculum balances the course work for developing a strong theoretical background with activities that aid in developing practical skills that are relevant to the aerospace industry. In addition to the strong aerospace engineering department in which you will take most courses, SDSU also offers very relevant and useful courses in the mechanical engineering, mathematics and computational science departments that can supplement your education.

In addition to coursework, San Diego by virtue of its location in the heart of the aviation industry in Southern California offers students a variety of opportunities for learning and professional growth. Southern California has historically been the hub of aerospace development and design activity. San Diego is birth place of Naval Aviation and the home to aerospace pioneers like John Montgomery and Charles Lindbergh. This tradition continues today. San Diego is currently home to many aerospace companies (Northrop Grumman, General Atomics, United Technologies Corporation Aerospace Systems Division, Solar Turbines, and Hamilton Sunstrand). This gives you ample opportunities to meet, interact and network with people in the aerospace industry.

For those who may aspire to go on to doctoral studies SDSU offers a PhD. program jointly with University of California San Diego (UCSD). This program gives you access to the faculty and facilities at two universities (SDSU and UCSD). Upon completing all the academic requirements of study, the student will receive PhD degree from both SDSU and UCSD.
