Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, is a well-established private institution of higher education. It was founded in 1935 and is Long Island's largest private university. It was founded as an extension of New York University, but in 1939 it became independent. In 1963, it began to be recognised as a university. It is the institution with over ten schools, including the Deane School of Law and the Northwell School of Medicine, that is renowned for a series of well-known Presidential conferences and numerous presidential debates of the United States. According to U.S. News & World Report's 2019 National Universities rankings, Hofstra University was ranked 140th. The university's campus spans 244 acres and contains approximately 117 buildings.

The library on the tenth floor of the campus's tenth-floor building provides a view of the entire city of New York. It has approximately 35 residence halls that house approximately 3,500 students, over 220 student clubs, 18 dining facilities, and six theatres. Additionally, a variety of social, cultural, and academic events are frequently organised on the university's campus. The university libraries provide 24/7 online access to more than 100,000 full-text journals and 200,000 electronic books.
