About International Tourism Management (joint Honours) BA/bsc (hons) in University of Northampton

This course focuses on the key growth areas in international tourism, including destination management, planning and development, adventure and sports tourism, spa tourism and visitor attractions. You will get to explore the ongoing impact of new technology on international tourism and the effects of changing trends in society and the economy upon this industry. Sustainable and ethical issues in tourism underpin the programme throughout.

We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

Partnerships and Accreditation

This course has been developed in association with key players from the tourism industry, along with guidelines as identified in the National QAA Subject Benchmark Statement for Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism. You will be taught by enthusiastic and highly experienced staff that have extensive backgrounds in tourism management. Our International Tourism Management course is fully accredited by the Tourism Management Institute (TMI) and is a member of the Tourism Society, the UK’s professional tourism body.

Study Trips: Barcelona Tourism in Action

Students have participated in overseas study trips to destinations such as Istanbul and Barcelona (usually in their first or second year). The study trip is optional and the cost in previous years has not exceeded £400 for flights, accommodation and local visits. Students normally allow an additional £200 for their expenses.

Methods of Learning

In the Joint Honours programme you can select two subjects as joint for stage one. You may then continue to study with equal emphasis on two subjects as a joint degree in stages two and three, or switch to a major or minor split. Your degree title is derived from the two subjects.

Modules are delivered using a variety of methods ranging from lectures, seminars and practical activity sessions, all of which are supported by our online learning environment, NILE. Our aim is to provide opportunities for you to become actively involved in your learning. We give considerable emphasis to a wide range of imaginative and innovative assessment opportunities. Typical assessments include online debates, research projects, posters, blogs, reports, group work, use of social media, portfolios, business pitches and presentations, live consultancy projects and examinations.

Assessments

A variety of individual and group-based assessments are used including written reports, client briefs, presentation, portfolio and examinations.

If you are considering studying the International Tourism Management Joint Honours course you can expect taught study to be a combination of lectures, seminars and workshops usually for six hours per week. We recommend that you spend 12 hours per week in self-directed study time.

Basic Admission Requirements

  1. Certified transcripts of high school/college/university
  2. One reference required
  3. Statement of Purpose depicting the interest of the applicant in the chosen course
  4. MBA applicants must also have a proof of work experience
  5. Arts and design applicant must also submit their portfolio 

The outcomes of the English proficiency tests taken by all of the international applicants. IELTS, TOEFL iBT, and Pearson PTE are acceptable tests. The minimal IELTS scores needed to get admitted are as follows:
